2001 book list
The Pilot’s Wife by Anita Shreve
- Smooth writing, easy read, but painfully predictable.
Cider House Rules by John Irving
- Liked the book, but some had to get used to Irving’s writing style and couldn’t figure his reasoning for some of the emphasized text. Book was much better than the movie – they left too many important parts out of the movie.
Little Altars Everywhere by Rebecca Wells
- A bunch of twisted sisters. If we had read this first, some wouldn’t have been interested in reading “The Ya-Ya Sisterhood.” “Ya-Yas” was much better.
My Antonia by Willa Cather
- Liked the “Little House on the Prairie” feel. Interesting characters and description of settings.
Summer Sisters by Judy Blume
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
- Wonderfully fictionalized Biblical history with great attention to detail and Jewish tradition.
Rating: 4 out of 4
With Malice Toward None by Stephen Oates
- It died when it got to the Ford Theatre.
Rating: 3.4 out of 4
A Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare
- Beth was brilliant (Shakespeare in the Park performance in Noblesville, Ind.).
Rating: 3 out of 4
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
- Only 4 stars to vote for? How about 1 million. Loved it, but the end did drag.
Rating: 4 out of 4
Chocolat by Joanne Harris
- Liked the movie better. And why read about chocolate when you can savor a box of Godiva?
Rating: 2 out of 4
West with the Night by Beryl Markham
- We felt there was a story left out.
Rating: 2.33 out of 4
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
